Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader with Georgetown

Musketeers and Hoyas wrap up series on Sunday, starting at noon
CINCINNATIÂ - Xavier baseball swept a Saturday doubleheader with Georgetown at Hayden Field, taking a 6-2 walk-off win in 10 innings in game one, and securing the series victory with a 15-3 win in game two. The Musketeers moved to 26-19 overall and 10-4 in BIG EAST play, now with four series wins in conference action.
In game one, Xavier took a 1-0 lead in the first after Connor Misch got on with a single, moved to second on a fielder's choice and scored on a single from Nolan Tucker. The lead held into the eighth when Georgetown tied it up at 1-1, which held through the ninth to force extra innings.
A solo home run in the top of the 10th gave the Hoyas the 2-1 lead. In the bottom of the 10th, Clay Burdette got on with a walk and stole second to move into scoring position. Donavan Canterberry drove him in with a single to tie the game at 2-2. Jake Lambdin and Carter Hendrickson both took walks to load the bases and Misch hit his first collegiate grand slam to give Xavier the 6-2 walk-off win.
In game two, the Musketeers again took the early lead, with Hendrickson getting on with a double and scoring on a single from Burdette to make it 1-0 after the first. The Hoyas scored a pair to take the 2-1 lead after the top of the third.
The Musketeers responded with a five runs on six hits in the bottom of the third, getting a single from Hendrickson and a double from Misch to put two runners on in scoring position with one out. Aedan Anderson brought in Hendrickson with a single to tie it at 2-2. Burdette brought in Anderson with a single to put Xavier back in front, 3-2. Tucker followed with an RBI single and Wachsmann capped off the inning with a two-RBI double to make it a 6-2 Xavier lead.
The Hoyas picked up a run in the sixth on a solo home run but the Musketeers responded with a pair in the bottom of the frame. Canterberry led off the inning with a solo home run to make it a 7-3 lead. Misch doubled, followed by Anderson and Burdette being hit by pitches to load the bases. Tucker took a walk to bring in Misch to make it an 8-3 Xavier advantage.
A solo home run from Jason Jelic to lead off the seventh made it a 9-3 Xavier lead and the Musketeers stretched the lead out to 12 with a six-run eighth inning. Misch led off the inning with a walk, Anderson singled, and Burdette got on with a walk to load the bases. Tucker and Wachsmann were both hit by pitches to bring in two runs. Another run came in on a bases-loaded walk for Jason Jelic and a single from Canterberry made it a 10-run lead, 13-3. Landon Mensik was hit by a pitch to bring in a run and Eddie Peters drove in a run with a single to set the final score at 15-3.
Xavier and Georgetown wrap up the series on Sunday, April 26, set for a 12:00 p.m. start at Hayden Field.

- Connor Misch finished the first game with a career-high matching four RBI after hitting his third home run of the season, a grand slam in the 10th inning. He also had three walks in the game, finishing with two runs scored. Misch went 2-4 with a walk in game two, scoring three runs.
- Donavan Canterberry finished 3-3 with two walks in game one, driving in an RBI and scoring a run in the 10th. In game two, Canterberry finished 2-5, including hitting his first collegiate home run, finishing the second game with two RBI and a run scored.
- Nolan Tucker (1-5) drove in an RBI in game one. He finished game two with three more runs batted in, finishing with a hit (1-3) and a walk, scoring two runs.
- Carter Hendrickson finished game one with a hit (1-4) and a walk, scoring a run. He posted a three-hit performance in game two, going 3-5 with a double and scoring a pair of runs.
