Musketeers Drop 5-4 Contest at Old Dominion

The Musketeers dropped their second-straight game by a score of one.
NORFOLK, Va. - The Xavier lacrosse team wrapped up their spring break trip to Virginia with a 5-4 loss at Old Dominion.
Samantha Balara and Megan Droney each contributed a goal to extend their scoring streaks through the past four games. Haley Reeck and Maya Graham contributed Xavier's other two goals.
For the second-straight game and third time this season, the Musketeers lost by just one goal. This is the fifth opponent this season that XU has held under 10 goals, helping them rank in the NCAA top-25 for scoring defense.
Xavier falls to 2-5 on the season while ODU improves to 5-3. The Musketeers return home this weekend to face Vanderbilt on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.

Haley Reeck followed up her four-goal game on Sunday afternoon with the opening goal of Tuesday's contest against Old Dominion just two minutes in.
Megan Droney scored on a free position shot in the final six minutes of the first quarter to give the Musketeers a 2-0 lead heading into the second frame.
After XU shut out the Monarchs in the first, ODU responded with a 3-0 second quarter. The Musketeers took four shots in the quarter but were unable to convert.
Samantha Balara scored the opening goal of the third quarter to tie it back up at 3-3, but the Monarchs scored again in the final two minutes to take a 4-3 lead ahead of the final quarter.
ODU extended their lead to two with an early goal in the fourth quarter, but Maya Graham scored three minutes later to bring XU within one again. Both teams went cold for the final 10 minutes of the contest and Old Dominion held on for a 5-4 win.
