Xavier head women’s basketball coach Billi Chambers announced the hiring of Myia Johnson as assistant coach/recruiting coordinator in May of 2023. Johnson joined the Musketeers after one season at Cincinnati.
Johnson helped coach Meri Kanerva to 2025 All-BIG EAST Freshman Team honors. Xavier ranked fourth in the BIG EAST in field-goal percentage defense (.412) during the 2024-25 season. The Musketeers also ranked third in the BIG EAST and 106th in the NCAA in turnovers forced per game (20.1).
Xavier made 187 three pointers in 2024-25, ranking tied for 10th in single-season school history. The last time Xavier made 187 or more three pointers in a season was in 2013-14 (204 made three pointers). Additional 2024-25 highlights can be found HERE.
Johnson helped coach Aizhanique Mayo to 2024 All-BIG EAST Freshman Team honors and saw Nila Blackford eclipse the 1,000-career rebound mark. The Musketeers also finished the 2023-24 season with 595 three-pointers attempted, ranking seventh in school history. Xavier finished the year ranked sixth in the BIG EAST in three-pointers made per game (6.1).
Prior to Cincinnati, Johnson spent three seasons as an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator at Penn State (2019-22). She helped coach nine all-conference honorees, highlighted by Maddie Burke who was named the 2021 Big Ten Sixth Player of the Year. Johnson was also responsible for a top-20 nationally ranked recruiting class in 2020.
Prior to Penn State, Johnson spent three seasons at Wisconsin (2016-19). She helped coach three players to all-conference honors, highlighted by two-time Big Ten All-Second Team honoree, Imani Lewis. In 2018, Johnson secured a nationally ranked recruiting class (ranked No. 14 by Blue Star Basketball).
Johnson served as the video coordinator for Ohio State from 2013-14. The Buckeyes advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2016. Prior to Ohio State, she was the administrative assistant at South Florida (2012-13). The Bulls advanced to the second round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament.
Johnson played collegiately at Rutgers from 2006-10 under Basketball Hall of Fame coach C. Vivian Stringer. The Scarlet Knights advanced to the NCAA Tournament three times and were the 2007 NCAA Runner-Up.
The Cincinnati, Ohio, native holds a bachelor’s degree in sport management from Rutgers (’10).
