Matt Vasquenza's Brace Gives Men's Soccer 3-1 Win Over Detroit

Musketeers cap non-conference portion of schedule, improve to 7-2-2 overall
CINCINNATI – Matt Vasquenza scored twice in the first half and Simen Hestnes added an exclamation point goal late, leading Xavier men's soccer to a 3-1 win over visiting Detroit on Tuesday at XU Soccer Complex.
With the win, the Musketeers improve to 7-2-2 on the season and conclude non-conference play with six BIG EAST matches left on the schedule.
Xavier outshot Detroit 13-8 in the match, earning an 8-2 advantage in shots on frame. XU also had a 7-5 edge in corner kicks.
• Matt Vasquenza's goals were his fourth and fifth of the season, bringing his career total to 21. He now has three tallies in his last two matches and is just one goal outside the program's all-time top-10.
• Vasquenza's four points brought his career total to 60, moving him past Will Walker for 10th in program history.
• Simen Hestnes' 90th minute strike was his fourth goal of the season, moving him into a tie for second on the team with 13 points.
• Cory Brown and Payton Miller both notched their first assists of the season on Vasquenza's second goal.
• Miller's assist was his first in an XU uniform.
• Xavier now has eight different players with an assist this season.
• XU now leads the all-time series against Detroit, 9-5-3. Tonight's match was the first between the two schools since 2009.
