Men's Soccer Gets Back to BIG EAST Play, Heading to Villanova on Saturday

Musketeers wrapped up non-conference play with 3-1 win over Detroit on Tuesday night
CINCINNATI – Unbeaten in nine of 10, Xavier men's soccer hits the road to resume BIG EAST play on Saturday, traveling to Villanova for a 7 p.m. match.
The Musketeers (7-2-2, 2-1 BIG EAST) have won two straight and piled up seven goals in doing so, rebounding from a road loss at St. John's that snapped a season-long seven match unbeaten streak two weeks ago.

Notable:
• Villanova made its first-ever NCAA appearance in 2016 during a breakthrough season, including wins against No. 10 Creighton, No. 11 Boston College and No. 22 Delaware.
• The last time the two sides met at Higgins Field, Xavier mounted an impressive comeback after trailing 1-0 with just five minutes to play. Todd Pratzner (85') and Majed Osman (87') both scored in the closing minutes to lift XU to the road win.
• Xavier leads the all-time series 3-0-1, including a 2-2 draw in double overtime last season on Oct. 15 at Gettler Stadium. Matt Nance (49') and Jalen Brown (72') both scored for XU in the match, which saw the Musketeers battle back from one goal deficits twice.
• With a 2-1 record in 2017, Xavier is now 23-12-4 (.641) in BIG EAST play since joining the conference ahead of the 2013 season.
• The Musketeers have never finished below fifth-place or missed qualifying for the BIG EAST Championships.
• Xavier has reached the league semifinals in 2013 and 2015, while also appearing in the 2014 title match against Providence. Last season, XU was eliminated in the quarterfinal round at Creighton.

• Xavier leads the BIG EAST in total points with 67, which is 18 more than its nearest competitor. Villanova ranks second with 49 points.
• The Musketeers also rank first in the league in goals (22), goals per game (2.00), assists (23), assists per game (2.09) and corner kicks (74).
