Baseball Falls to Wright State at Hayden Field

Senior Chris Givin leads Musketeers at the plate with a pair of hits
CINCINNATI -- Xavier baseball fell to Wright State 10-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Hayden Field. The Musketeers move to 9-15 on the season after splitting the midweek schedule with the Raiders.
Wright State found a spark early with a two-run second inning. The Musketeers hitting drought lasted until the bottom of the third when Luke Franzoni singled to center. A lead-off double from Conor Grammes in the fourth gave the Musketeers a base runner but they ended the inning stranding one. Wright State rallied in the fifth inning where they earned four runs, then adding two runs in the top of the sixth. Wright State added two more runs in the ninth to complete the shutout.Â
The Musketeers travel to Austin, Texas to face the Texas Longhorns. The series starts on Friday, March 2 at 8 p.m. EST.Â

- Luke Franzoni gave the Musketeers their first hit of the game at the bottom of the third, where he singled to center.Â
- With a lead-off double in the fourth, Conor Grammes extended his on-base percentage to eight straight games. Grammes finished the day 1-3.
- Chris Givin led the Musketeers at the plate marking two hits, going 2-4Â on the day.Â
- Matt Warkentin gave the Musketeers his only hit of the day with a single to center in the bottom of the sixth.Â
- Kody Darcy also connected on a hit.Â
- Xavier finished the day with six hits total and no walks, breaking a streak of over 60 games with out a free pass, dating back to March 2018 at San Francisco.

- Matt Kent got his fourth start of the season, pitching 1.1 innings and giving up four hits and two earned runs.
- Trevor Olson came into the game in the second, striking out the first batter he faced and pitched three innings.Â
- Trey Schramm pitched one innging, allowing one run off two hits.Â
- Nick Zwack entered the game in the top of the sixth and pitched and scoreless and runless 1.1 innings. Zwack left the mound with a team-high two strikeouts.
- Jake Shepski faced two batters in the top of the seventh, striking out one.Â
- Henry Miller started the eighth, were he allowed three walks.
- Taylor Williams took the mound to close the game, striking out one but allowing two hits.Â
