Allbry Major collects three RBI on sac flys

CINCINNATI - Xavier baseball used a four-run second inning to take control of the series final against Cincinnati, and added six more to top the Bearcats, 10-2, at Great American Ballpark on Saturday evening. The Musketeers finish the regular season at 25-29 overall, winning 2-of-3 with the Bearcats this weekend and splitting the season series, 2-2.

Xavier posted four-run second inning, taking the 4-0 lead into the fourth inning, adding another run to lead 5-0. UC scored in the sixth, but the Musketeers responded with three in the bottom of the inning to lead 8-1. Xavier pushed it to 9-1 with a run in the seventh and each team scored in the eighth to set the final score at 10-2.

Xavier now prepares for BIG EAST Tournament action, opening play on Thursday, May 23. The No. 2 seeded Musketeers will play No. 3 St. John's in the second game of the evening, set to begin at approximately 6:30 PM at Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio.

XU AT THE PLATE

Allbry Major collected three RBIs on three sac flys, going 1-of-2 at the plate.
Conor Grammes went 2-of-3 with a walk at the plate, scoring three times and collecting an RBI.
Jake Shepski went 2-of-3 with a walk, collecting two RBIs and scoring a run.
Matt Warkentin hit his team-high ninth home run of the season, a two-run shot. He finished 1-of-4 with a walk.
Jack Housinger went 2-of-3 at the plate, including an RBI triple, and scored a run. Housinger also took a pair of walks.
Fournier, Monastra and Stephenson each contributed hits as Xavier collected 11 hits on the day to go with 10 bases on balls.

XU ON THE MOUND

Nick Zwack went 3.0 innings in the start, allowing no runs on one hit with two strikeouts, picking up his fourth win of the season.
Henry Miller entered in the fourth for the Musketeers, pitching 2.0 innings, striking out a pair with no hits and no runs allowed.
Griffin Lanoue entered in the sixth, pitching 2.0 innings with one run on one hit.
Nathan Berg pitched the eight, going 1.0 inning, striking out one with one run allowed on two hits and walk.
Lane Flamm closed out the game, going 1.0 innings with two hits and one strikeout.

HOW THEY SCORED

SECOND INNING | Ryan Fournier walked to get aboard with one out, then advanced to third on a Jack Housinger single. A bunt single by Natale Monastra set Fournier home to put Xavier ahead, 1-0. A Conor Grammes walk loaded the bases, and a ground rule double by Jake Shepski brought in two more runs, putting Xavier up, 3-0. With Grammes on third, Allbry Major hit a sac fly to right field to bring the score to 4-0.

FOURTH INNING | Conor Grammes singled to get on base with one out, then advanced to second on a Shepski walk, then stole third. Allbry Major's second sac fly of the day brought Grammes home to put Xavier ahead, 5-0.

SIXTH INNING | Conor Grammes led the inning off with a double, then advanced to third on a Jake Shepski single. Allbry Major sent Grammes home on his third sac fly of the night to make the score 6-1. With Shepski still on base, Matt Warkentin homered to left field to score a pair, putting Xavier ahead 8-1.

SEVENTH INNING | Back-to-back walks for Ryan Fournier and Jack Housinger to lead off the inning put a pair on for Luke Stephenson, who singled to left to load the bases for Conor Grammes. Grammes hit a sac fly to score Fournier, making the score 9-1.

EIGHTH INNING | Kody Darcy walked with one out, then came home on a Jack Housinger triple to make the score 10-2.
