Musketeers Sweep Doubleheader at Dayton, Win Series 3-1

Xavier scores a combined 38 runs in two-win day
The Musketeers got the bats going in the first outing, taking a 3-0 lead in the first inning, then building the lead out to 14-0 with a nine-run third inning. The Musketeers score in four of the remaining six innings, collecting a season-high 18 hits to take the 24-16 win. Lane Flamm made the start for the Musketeers, going 4.0 innings. Griffin Lanoue entered for the fifth inning, going 3.0 and picking up the win.
In game two, the Flyers struck first, taking a one-run lead early, but runs in the second, third and fourth innings put the Musketeers ahead 8-6 headed to the bottom of the fourth. The Flyers out score Xavier 5-1 over the next inning and half to take a 11-9 lead into the seventh, but a five-run frame for the Musketeers gave Xavier the 14-11 win in seven innings to win the series,
Xavier moves into BIG EAST play, traveling to St. John's next weekend for four games starting on Friday, April 9 and running through Sunday.

1ST INNING | With one out in the inning, Jack Housinger and Ryan Altenberger each took a walk to put two on for Natale Monastra. Monastra hit a homer to left field, bringing in three runs to put Xavier up 3-0.
2ND INNING | With one out and no one on, Garrett Schultz hit the first pitch he saw over the left field fence to make it 4-0 Xavier. After a pitching change by the Flyers, Jack Housinger sent a solo shot to fight center, making it 5-0 Xavier.
3RD INNING | Andrew Walker hit a lead-off singIe, then advanced to second as Tyler DeMartino reached on an error. Grant Stephenson hit a single to center field to score Walker, making it 6-0 Xavier. Back-to-back fielding errors by the Flyers allowed Jared Cushing and Garrett Schultz to reach, bringing DeMartino home to make it 7-0 Xavier, and loading the bases for Jack Housinger. Housinger hit a single to left field to bring Stephenson and Cushing home, making it 9-0 Xavier with one out in the inning.
Ryan Altenberger hit a single to load the bases, with Housinger on second and Schultz on third. Natale Monastra hit an infield single to bring Schultz in, making it 10-0 Xavier with the bases loaded an still one only one out. Andrew Walker hit his second single of the inning to bring in two more runs, making it 12-0 Xavier. After a fielders choice put Andrew Walker on Second and Matthew DePrey on first, Tyler DeMartino hit a double to left center to bring in both base runners, making it 14-0 Xavier, capping a nine-run inning.
4TH INNING | Jared Cushing took a lead-off walk and Garrett Schultz doubled to bring him home, making it 15-5 Xavier. Jack Housinger walked and Ryan Altenberger singled, sending Schultz home to make it 16-5 Xavier , while Housinger advanced to third on an error, then scoring on a sac from Andrew Walker, 16-5 Xavier. Matthew DePrey was hit by a pitch to runners on first and second, and Tyler DeMartino reached on an error to load the bases. Grant Stephenson had a walk to bring in Altenberger, 17-5 Xavier. Jared Cushing walked to bring in DePrey, the fifth run of the inning, setting the score at 19-5 Xavier.
5TH INNING | Ryan Altenberger took a one-out walk, took second on a wild pitch, the scored on an Andrew Walker double to make it 20-13 Xavier.
7TH INNING | Jack Housinger took a lead-off walk then advanced to third after a fielding error that allowed Natale Monastra to reach. An Andrew Walker ground ball sent Housinger home to make it 21-13 Xavier. After Monastra took third on a wild pitch, then came home after Matthew DePrey reached on a fielding error, mkaing it 22-13 Xavier.
8TH INNING | Grant Stephenson singled to center field to lead off the inning, then advanced to second on a wild pitch and third on a fly ball from Jared Cushing. Another wild pitch brought Stephenson home to make it 20-13 Xavier. Garrett Schultz singled with one out, went to third on a Jack Housinger double then game home on a ground ball from Ryan Altenberger making it 24-13.

2ND INNING | Garrett Schultz led off the inning with a single to right field and then a walk for Grant Stephenson moved him to second. A throwing error allowed both to advance after stolen base, scoring Stephenson to tie the score 1-1.
3RD INNING | Jack Housinger hit a solo home run with one out to make it 2-1 Xavier. Natale Monastra singled with two outs and stole second, then Garrett Schultz walked to give Xavier two base runners. Garret Stephenson hit a triple to bring both home, making it 4-1 Xavier. Tyler DeMartino hit a single to center field to bring Stephenson in, 5-1 Xavier. Matthew DePrey reached on an error, the a second error allowed DeMartino to score, making it 6-1 Xavier.
4TH INNING | Jack Housinger took a one-out walk, then Ryan Altenberger homered to right field to bring both runs in, making it 8-6 Xavier.
5TH INNING | After Andrew Walker reached on a single, Jack Housinger reached on a fielder's choice, moving to third on a Ryan Altenberger single then coming home on a Natale Monastra double to make it a 9-9 tie.
7TH INNING | Trailing 11-9 in the final inning, Lane Flamm hit a double down the left field line, then moved to third on a Jared Cushing single. Andrew Walker hit a single to loaed the bases then Jack Housinger hit a double to left field to bring in a pair of runs, tying the game at 11-11. Ryan Altenberger hit his second homer of the day to clear the bases, bringing in three runs to put Xavier ahead 14-11.

- Andrew Walker went 5-6 at the plate with five RBI, both career highs, in game one. He had a pair of doubles and scored a pair of runs. Walker picked up two more hits in game two (2-5), also scoring a run. Walker batted .474 for the series, going 9-19 at the plate and collecting eight RBI.
- Jack Housinger went 3-4 at the plate, including his second home run of the year, taking a career-best three walks in game one, scoring a career-high five runs. In game two Housinger went 2-4 at the plate, including a second homer, and scored a team-high four runs while bringing in three RBI. Housinger batted .533 for the series, with eight hits and nine runs scored.
- Ryan Altenberger went 2-5 at the plate, taking two walks, scoring four runs and bringing in two RBI in game one. In game two he added three more hits (3-4), including two home runs, and collected a team-high five RBI in game two. Altenberger finished the series hitting .500 (7-14)Â at the plate wtih eight RBI.
- Natale Monastra (2-7) brought in four RBI on two hits, including a home run in the first inning of game one. Monastra went 4-5 at the plate in game two, scoring a run and bringing in an RBI. Monastra batted .533 for the series, with eight hits and five RBI.
- Garrett Schultz went 3-7 in game one, including a solo home in the second inning, his first of the season. Schultz finished with four runs scored and two RBI in the first game. Schultz also collected a hit in game two (1-3) and scored two runs. Schultz batted .429 (6-14) for the series, socring seven runs.
- Grant Stephenson went 2-5 at the plate in game one, finishing with two runs scored and two RBI. In game two he went 1-2, collecting two more RBI.

- Lane Flamm made the start in game one, going 4.0 innings, allowing seven earned runs on 10 hits and a walk, striking out six.
- Griffin Lanoue entered for the fifth in game one, going 3.0, allowing four earned runs on four hits with two strikouts and three walks. Lanoue picked up the win.
- Xander Rojahn pitched the eighthin game one, allowing one run on one hit and two walks.
- Miles Halligan pitched the ninth inning in game one, allowing two runs on one hit and one walk.
