Musketeers host a pair of matches next weekend

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - No. 61 Xavier men's tennis picked up a 5-2 win over the Purdue Boilermakers on Friday afternoon, moving to 7-3 on the season.

Next weekend, Xavier hosts Southern Indiana and Creighton on Saturday, March 4 at Eastern Hills.

THE MATCH

In doubles play, the Boilermakers took the first decision, a 6-2 win on the No. 1 court against Ryan Cahill and Deacon Thomas. Xavier pulled even with a 6-4 win on No. 3 for Charlie Temming and Jorge Santamaria, then clinched the point on No. 2, with Cambell Nakayama and Pascal Mosberger taking the 7-6 (6) win in tiebreakers.

Xavier made it a 2-0 lead with a 6-2, 6-1 win on the No. 6 singles court for Marco Pennelli, then extended it to a 3-0 lead with a 6-3, 6-4 win for Kyle Totorica on the No. 5 court.

Pascal Mosberger took the No. 4 court, 6-3, 6-2, to put Xavier ahead 4-0 and clinch the match.

Ryan Cahill picked up the fifth point for the Musketeers, a 5-7, 6-4, 11-9 win on No. 1.

Purdue picked up a pair of points on the No. 2 court, a 7-6 (3), 6-3 win over Deacon Thomas and a 6-4, 7-5 win over Cambell Nakayama on court No. 3 to set the final score at 5-2.
