The Musketeers drop to 2-1-1 on the season

CINCINNATI - Xavier men's soccer dropped a 1-0 contest vs Duquesne on Sunday afternoon. The Musketeers moved to 2-1-1 on the year, while the Dukes improved to 3-0.

Xavier concludes its five-match homestand on Thursday, Sept. 5 vs Bradley. First touch is set for 7 p.m. from Corcoran Field.

NOTABLES

Cooper Forcellini paced the Musketeers with two shots on goal. Dylan Kropp, Taylor Rhinehart and Nathan Trickett all added two shots.
Xavier held a 13-2 advantage in shots and recorded five more shots on goal (6-1) than the Dukes. The Musketeers also took seven more corner kicks (9-2) and committed one less foul (11-10). Duquesne held a 6-1 advantage in yellow cards.
The Musketeers have held an opponent to three or fewer shots twice this season (held Northern Kentucky to three shots on Aug. 22).
The two shots is the fewest allowed during the Coach Higgins Era and the fewest allowed by a Xavier defense since Sept. 15, 2021 at Robert Morris (W, 1-0; only allowed one shot).
Jonny Mennell (2-1-1) only faced two shots and did not make a save. He has a 0.50 goals against average on the season. The goalkeeper now a career record of 11-5-7 in goal with a 0.78 goals against average, 76 saves and 11 shutouts.
Zoltan Nagy (2-0) earned the win between the pipes, recording his first shutout of the season while making six saves. Jaxon Ervin now has a team-leading six points (two goals and two assists).
Fabrizio Bernal de la Garza played the last five minutes of the match, making his 2024 debut. The senior forward missed nearly the entire 2023 season with a knee injury.
