Musketeers Fall to Wildcats in Final Home Contest

CINCINNATI - The Xavier women's lacrosse team dropped an 18-9 game to Villanova in the Musketeers' final home match of the season.Â
Xavier falls to 1-11 (0-4 BIG EAST) while the Wildcats improve to 10-4 (4-1 BIG EAST) and remain atop the BIG EAST standings.

Villanova scored the first goal of the contest just three minutes in and Lily Villaflor tied it up for the Musketeers assisted by Dylan Halloran over a minute later.
Xavier was shut out for the rest of the period while the Wildcats scored four more goals to take a 5-1 lead at the first break.
Samantha Balara opened the second period with a goal on the fast break, but Villanova responded with two more of their own to extend their lead.
Julie Cassidy scored her 20th goal of the season off an assist by Lola Mancuso halfway through the second period before the Wildcats converted a free position shot a minute later.
Megan Droney scored a free position goal of her own to cut the deficit to four, but Villanova tacked on three more goals to close out the half with an 11-4 lead.
The Wildcats continued to surge offensively with three straight goals to open the second half.
Dylan Halloran then scored a man-up goal thanks to a quick feed from Maya Graham in the final minutes of the third period, but Villanova had a response yet again to make it 15-5.
The Musketeers outscored the Wildcats 4-3 in the final quarter with four separate scorers.
Droney scored her second goal of the game off Graham's second assist of the game.
Morgan Handzel won the draw to bring the ball into Xavier's offensive third to lead to Machaela Henry converting a free position attempt.
Graham scored one of her own on a free position shot with under four minutes to go, and Erin Berls closed out the game with her first goal of the season as time expired on the clock.

The Musketeers travel to UConn next week for their penultimate conference game. First draw is set for 12:00 p.m. in Storrs, Connecticut.
