Musketeers Take Comeback Win in Game Two at Liberty
02.22.25 | Baseball
Game three with the Flames set for Sunday at 1 PM
Liberty scored runs in each of the first three innings to take a 5-0 lead. In the fourth, Xavier got on the board after Jake Lambdin took a two-out walk, followed by a double from Carter Hendrickson, his third hit of the day, to drive in a run. Hendrickson moved to third on an Aedan Anderson single and scored on an error to cut the lead to 5-2.
The 5-2 score held into the seventh inning when the Musketeers used a four-run frame to move in front. Isaac Wachsmann led off the inning with a solo home run to cut the lead to two. Connor Misch walked, the first of four in the inning for the Musketeers, and Landon Mensik hit a single to put two on for Eddie Peters. A single up the middle from Peters brought Misch home. With Mensik on second and Peters on first, Jake Lambdin walked to load the bases, and then walks from Hendrickson and Anderson brought in two more runs to put Xavier in front, 6-5, headed to the bottom of the inning.
The Musketeers added three more runs on four hits in the eighth, with a single from Misch, a walk from Mensik and Clay Burdette getting on after being hit by a pitch to load the bases to start the inning. Jason Jelic hit a two-RBI double to bring in Misch and Mensik, adding to Xavier's lead, 8-5. Hendrickson's fourth hit of the day, an RBI single through the left side, made it a 9-6 Xavier advantage.
Xavier's defense held the Flames without a run for the final six innings. Jack Nobe entered in the fifth for starter Ryan Piech, and went the final 5.0 innings without allowing a run and giving up just one hit. Nobe faced the minimum in three innings on the way to his first collegiate win.
