Musketeers and Flames return to the field on Saturday at 2 PM
Xavier moved in front, 2-0, in the second inning after Landon Mensik got aboard with a single and Eddie Peters drove him in with an RBI double. Peters scored on a single from Jake Lambdin to cap the two-run, three hit inning.
The Musketeers added three more runs in the third, with Isaac Wachsmann and Landon Mensik getting on with singles, and Clay Burdette clearing the bases with his second home run of the season to make it a 5-0 Xavier lead. The Musketeers extended it out to a 7-0 lead in the fourth, where Jason Jelic and Jake Lambdin took back-to-back walks to lead off the inning, both coming home on an RBI double from Aedan Anderson.
Jake Hooker went 4.1 innings in the start and held the Flames off the board until the fifth inning, when Liberty scored three runs. The Flames added three more runs in the sixth to cut the lead to one, 7-6. A four-run frame for Liberty in the eighth inning put the Flames in front, 10-7, headed into the ninth. Xavier got a lead-off walk from Eddie Peters in the ninth inning, but the Musketeers were unable to get a run across, setting the final score at 10-7.
Game two of three against the Flames is set for Saturday, February 22, at 2:00 p.m.
