Men's Soccer Continues BIG EAST Play Saturday at Georgetown

CINCINNATI – Xavier men's soccer continues league play on Saturday, visiting Georgetown's Shaw Field for a 1 p.m. match.
The Musketeers (3-2-2, 1-0 BIG EAST), who are coming off a 1-0 win against DePaul, are one of four teams off to a 1-0 start in league play. The Hoyas are also looking to build on a win to start conference play after picking up a 1-0 road win at Providence last Saturday.
Following Saturday's match, XU will continue its longest road swing of the season at Providence on Saturday, Oct. 1.
XAVIER MUSKETEERS (3-2-2, 1-0 BIG EAST)

Notable:
• Georgetown has been outshot 98-64 this season, but has only been outscored 6-3. The Hoyas have been susceptible to second half goals, trailing 5-2 after halftime on the year.
• The Hoyas have been involved in 1-0 scores in six of seven matches. Only top-10 Maryland has scored more than one goal on Georgetown this year.
• The Hoyas are coming off a 16-2-3 (9-0 BIG EAST) season, one of the best in program history, and entered the 2016 with an 18-match unbeaten streak. GU won both the BIG EAST regular season and tournament titles a year ago.
• A young team, the Hoyas have been dealing with growing pains after graduating the winningest class in school history. A record three Hoyas were selected in the first round of the 2016 MLS SuperDraft.
• After a preseason No. 10 ranking by the NSCAA, Georgetown has played a challenging schedule thus far but is off to a disappointing 2-5 start in 2016.
• Head coach Brian Wiese is in his 12th season in 2016 with a 120-66-25 record at Georgetown. The Hoyas have made four straight NCAA Tournament appearances under Wiese (2012-15).
• Xavier and Georgetown have met in each of the last two BIG EAST Championships, ending each other's runs during the last two years. In 2015, Georgetown ended Xavier's season in the semifinals, winning 1-0 on Nov. 12 at Shaw Field.
• The Hoyas lead the all-time series 3-2 after taking both meetings in 2015.
• XU recorded its first shutout of the season in a 1-0 win against DePaul on Saturday, Sept. 17 at UC's Gettler Stadium.

• For a second straight preseason, Cory Brown has racked up an impressive collection of preseason honors. The junior from Nelson, New Zealand is considered one of the best defenders in college soccer and was on the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List as a sophomore.

• Xavier goalkeepers have set program records for goals against average in three straight seasons.
