No. 5 Men's Soccer Travels to No. 4 Marquette for BIG EAST Championships Quarterfinal

The Musketeers are making their sixth straight appearance in the league tournament
CINCINNATI -Â No. 5 Xavier men's soccer travels to No. 4 seeded Marquette, playing in the BIG EAST Championships quarterfinals on Saturday night at 8 p.m. at Valley Fields.
The Musketeers enter the playoffs on a two-match winning streak, bouncing back from a five match skid in recent weeks. Xavier picked up an overtime road win, 2-1, against Seton Hall last Wednesday before winning its season finale against rival Butler in a 5-3 shootout at XU Soccer Complex. The five goals were a program record for a BIG EAST match.
With the results, XU capped its regular season with a 6-7-5 overall record and a 4-4-1 mark in BIG EAST action.
The Musketeers will be making their sixth straight appearance in the league playoffs as the team has never missed the event since joining the conference in 2013. XU has advanced to the title game twice since 2014.
Marquette enters the match at 7-8-1 overall and finished the regular season fourth in the conference with a 5-3-1 record.

• The Musketeers are also an incredible 7-2-2 against the Top-10 in that time frame, including wins at No. 2 Notre Dame and No. 1 Creighton in 2015. In 2014, the Musketeers claimed victories against No. 5 Indiana and No. 8 Georgetown on the way to the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 berth.

• Xavier wrapped the 2018 preseason with a 1-0-1 record against a pair of vaunted opponents.
• The Musketeers topped preseason No. 2 Indiana by a score of 2-1 on the road on Sunday, Aug. 12. Bryce Curran and Cameron Belle supplied the goals in the first period of the match.
• XU then closed exhibition action on Friday, Aug. 17 with a 0-0 draw against preseason No. 7 Michigan State.

• Xavier was picked third in the BIG EAST preseason poll, receiving 60 points for its highest-ever preseason ranking. Xavier had previously been picked as high as fourth in the 2016 preseason poll.
• Cameron Taylor and Simen Hestnes were also picked to the preseason All-BIG EAST Team, giving XU multiple players on that team for the third time in six seasons.
